Giant Robot is proud to present the Los Angeles stop of the WTF Summer Tour by artist Bwana Spoons, held in celebration of his first monograph, Welcome To Forest Island.

Spoons is a Portland-based artist whose freewheeling style was developed under the influence of underground comics, '60s rock posters, and Japanese rubber monster movies. Starting out with stapled-and-folded zines like My Friend the Micronaut and Ain't Nothing Like Fucking Moonshine in the early '90s, Spoons has become a regular in the Northwest street art and indie music scene. Endangered animals caught in mid-thought, kung fu wizards with gravity-defying eyebrows, and swirling psychedelic backgrounds are only some of the elements found in the well-composed anarchy of his paintings and sculptures. He is also involved in the Grass Hut art collective and gallery.

The 144 hyper colored pages of Welcome To Forest Island include paintings, maps, sketches, comics, and more--all dedicated to the wild, hyper chromatic paradise Spoons has been constructing for several years with his art. The denizens of this mind-bending setting include sweet whale-gators, boozy super-cicadas, arrow-slinging, basket-weaving bearded love tribes, an ex-hobo mushroom farmer, and one brutally intense bat that plays drums in a proto-metal band and would do just about anything to make a bagel relinquish its jelly filling! Cloth-spined and case-bound, this collection of jaw-dropping artwork is a true coffee-table gem.

Along with books to sign, Bwana will bring custom toys and some sold-out goodies, as well as small editions that are site specific, brand-new sculptures, original art, prints, T-shirts, and more wares for everybody's eyeballs. (And a barbecue for their stomachs.) Lastly, Bwana will come ready to rumble; prepare for battle with pencil fights and a big game of four square in the gr/eats parking lot.

The event will take place from 2:00 - 5:00 on Sunday, July 19. For more information about Spoons, GR2, or Giant Robot magazine, please contact:
